It's The Clueless Leading The Blind
Basing Your Opinion On Those That Don't Have The Experience To Actually Have An Opinion?
Yeah That Makes Real Sense
Over recent weeks I've been really busy with work and personal stuff, I've also been writing a lot of free verse and spending a bit of time in my local boozers. The warm pub environment illuminated by all the different beer pumps reminds me of when I used to play in bands when I was 13 years old. I like sitting on a bar stool with at least one of my elbows on the thick, smooth and shiny maple or mahogany wood that makes up the bar. Where I live in south London some of the pubs are a little too rough for your hipsters, influencers and pseudo intellectuals. You tend to get real people, alcoholics, gamblers and guys that could easily tear your spine out of your back whilst they sneeze. I feel comfortable around these types, I don't like phonies. I grew up in the pub environment and I like them, I get that trait from my dad, two pints in when you're feeling the buzz, it turns on a tap inside my head and I can write for hours, the carousel of shite outside the pub window pales into insignificance.
Over the last few weeks I've kept my head out of the online world and it's something that I will be doing permanently, the stupidity that occurred a month or so ago between me and what I call "the white noise" of the online metal detecting community escalated to a level that made me realise my choice to turn my back on most of civilisation was, in fact, the right choice to make, I actually started adopting this mindset when I was around 10 years old. I was aware that a Nexus machine was making its way over to the USA and I sensed with this they'd probably be some kind of feedback coming my way. I knew nothing about the outcome because, well, I paid no attention, it has nothing to do with me and I actually have a life, the online world isn't real. It's just a gang-bang of entities trying to desperately prove they're not painfully boring and normal.
"Before anyone says anything, you really don't want to get to know me, I'm as boring as they come, I actually put myself to sleep on a regular basis".
Nexus Falses In Iron - Trust Me I've Used It For 20 Minutes |
In regards to the online world, I do enjoy making my videos but I've mentioned many times before, I participate in this for 'the art of doing', it's a process that I like. The end result is neither here nor there and if people choose to watch anything that I do then that's cool. In regards to how much engagement I get on my channel, I very rarely look, I always do my best to reply to all comments but focusing on views and subscribers is the first stage of brain-rot, I just don't care. So Where Am I Going With This? I managed to avoid any stupidity that might of occurred from two YouTube entities having used the Nexus as a 'show pony' on their channels, well, that was until the other day when a little bit of the verbal turds they relieved themselves of started floating through to my inbox. This now gives me the right to reply ........ see how it works yet?
Someone started regurgitating what he'd read on a metal detecting forum about the Nexus to me through my blog. Why Pay Attention To The Mindless? because his waffle actually brings up the points I'd like to touch on. In every hobby you've always had your 'know it alls', 'experts' and 'poisonous little cliques' these people think they know everything about the specific activity they participate in. I can spot these 'non-events' from a mile off and I avoid them at all costs because they bore the shit out of me. A lot of these types voice their overblown opinions and they like to look upon themselves as the verbal cream that rises to the top. To me though, these people are more like the fermented milk that's been left in the carton for far too long so I flush it down the toilet.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the thing that I find fascinating is how certain individuals can have such staunch views about metal detectors they've never used. It's the same old names on the forums and YouTube talking the same old shit. I think maybe one distant voice has a Nexus which he's actually learning to use which is cool, someone taking the time to learn something new is very rare these days. I've written extensively about Nexus and those that have read a lot of what I write will see a running theme that threads everything that I'm saying together.
There are two main points, the first being, that Nexus is deeper than any digital machine and it identifies both iron and nonferrous correctly at extreme depths, way deeper than any digital machine ever will. How Do I know This? because I've learnt to use all my four Nexus machines and I have hunted with them for years, way before the inception of this blog and my Youtube channel. I have thousands of hours swinging Nexus on all different environments so all my opinions are actually based on experience, not conjecture or a self-delusion of being an expert, there are no experts just "repeaters", they repeat and recite the crap they've memorised from some book, forum post, marketing campaign or university course they're going to be paying off for the rest of their lives. Do I Consider Myself A Nexus Expert? no, I don't consider myself anything, the only Nexus expert that I see is the man that creates them.
People go on and on about VDI and target I.D like it's a virus of the mind, for me personally all I want to know is if a target is ferrous or non-ferrous so the DDM meter on the Nexus is a perfect feature that provides me with the information that I require when I'm out metal detecting. The meter is always correct if the machine is setup properly and you actually understand what it's indicating. I have zero interest if I'm digging a high, low or medium conductor, but the Nexus does have a feature to indicate the conductivity of a target and that can be found in the LC-MC dial on the V3 but, once again, you need a brain to be able to use this correctly.
If you want to create really cool coin programs .. blah blah blah .... then don't buy a Nexus, if you want to be lazy and only dig by certain numbers then .... have a guess? ... don't buy a Nexus either, I really can't make it any clearer than that, most serious detectorists dig all the non-ferrous out the ground however tedious the task may be. Most Nexus users I know of couldn't give a toss about target I.D, VDI readouts and a graphic bar to show the depth of the target. They hunt in an intuitive way and don't let mindless tech do all the work for them.
This Doesn't Unmask As Well As The Manticore |
The next point that continuously runs through both my videos and blogs is the FACT that the Nexus MP V2 and MP V3 have exceptional unmasking abilities. BUT they need to be in the right hands, if you don't know what you're doing then you might as well be swinging a broom. All these fools claiming that Nexus isn't good at unmasking or 'falses in iron' don't have a clue what they're talking about, firstly they really are spouting shit, but most importantly they have never used one, let me repeat that, they have never used one. It doesn't matter what you think you know about metal detectors, when you pick a Nexus up you're starting from scratch and I've mentioned this point so many times before that it's getting boring, but if you think you know all there is to know about metal detectors I can guarantee that you will fail to understand the operation of Nexus.
All the people that are having these intricate opinions about what Nexus is and isn't good at have never ever had one in their hands, just think about that sentence for a second or two. These people are sitting on their arses at home surgically attached to their phone or computer just waiting for the opportunity to share their bullshit views on something they know nothing about. Anything and everything they're saying is utterly irrelevant because they're projecting their digital frame of mind bullshit on to a machine that is a universe away from any of the digital machines on the market and any of the analog ones and, once again, they haven't used one.
But ... alas ... as expected, when a few new videos got posted about the Nexus over in the states the usual rabble of armchair mongs, trolls and physicists jump on the bandwagon waving their verbal 'PLEASE LISTEN TO ME, BECAUSE I'M SO CLEVER" banners. Most of these amazing knowledgeable critics wouldn't know their arse from their elbow if they picked up a Nexus machine, that's already been proven many many times before and it will no doubt be proven again in the future.
People might get even more offended with what I'm about to say but a huge amount of these self-appointed metal detecting "experts" on social media are clowns to me and the gullible people that put them on a pedestal as a 'reliable' source are just as dumb. Sorry if that makes your bottom lip start to quiver, that ain't my problem, maybe if there were more people actually telling the truth in this hobby as opposed to being glove puppets for the major brands, telling people what the companies want them to through the allure of a free machine. People might actually have a more balanced and realistic viewpoint on what metal detecting actually is and more of a panoramic view on the detectors that are available, new, old, digital and analog. But most will drop their trousers and reveal their pleasure zone at the promise of a free cap or the prestigious title of "An Official Tester" for "said company". If you want to be a "tester" maybe stop testing on concrete, beds, styrofoam, laundry baskets, cardboard and kitchen tables ... oh and wood.

Where Do I Get My Opinions From About The Performance Of Digital Detectors?
That's a very simple question to answer, because I used an Equinox 800 for a couple of years and I also own a Nokta Legend and a Fisher F19. I enjoyed using both of these machines and I found some cool items. But these detectors are toys to me, they're full of gimmicks and display limited performance. I'm sorry but I don't buy the whole multifrequency thing either, Yes ..... it might be able to give a slightly more stable VDI on a target down to a certain depth and enable people to run a machine on a salt water beach with little issue, but from where I'm standing that's about it. Because I personally couldn't give a toss about target I.D or how stable it is, that point is meaningless to me, plus from my personal experience they just don't perform in iron as good as analog.
Now let me make the point of saying that the majority value target I.D so these tech machines tick all the boxes and that's all cool, others like the turn on a go simplicity and that's cool as well. But you can't lump Nexus in with this conversation, it's a totally different animal, Yes .. it's a niche style machine in its operation but it works great in all hunting situations, I've used it in modern trash, heavy iron, scattered iron, on the river Thames, on ploughed fields, pasture, soaking wet clay, a mix of salt water and river water sand and it performs exceptionally well. BUT you have to learn it, if you don't then it won't perform in any scenario, if you fail to master the operation and then come out with a load of claims and opinions off the back of your inability to use the machine, then your opinion means nothing.
The opinions that the usual suspects are spouting that eventually came trickling into my inbox have all been based on a few videos made by people that didn't understand how to set the machine up. This in turn has created loads of meaningless and uninformed dialogue amongst the mongs which are now harvesting utterly irrelevant and bullshit views on the performance of Nexus. The blind leading the blind rings very true here, obviously I wouldn't have even bothered entertaining writing a blog like this if the backwash of crap hadn't come flowing under my virtual reality toilet seat.
I'll conclude this post with a few points I've made in the past, firstly if what I write offends you then don't read it and if what I say in my videos offends you then don't watch them. Unfortunately in a world of dross, fakers, hipsters and glory seekers the truth is very rarely spoken, I write the way that I see it and if you ever met me in person I'd express these same thoughts directly to your face. Thanks For Reading

They tell you shouldn't care about what others think about you, so why would you care about people being stupid? Don't waste your energy and time for them.
