Inverted Phase Signals On Some Small Lead 'Micro Blog'
I've explained about inverted phase signals in the past, these can mainly occur on mineralised rocks both large and small. But they can also occur on some types of lead depending on the size and how close it is to the coil, once you know what to look and listen for they're really easy to spot. To explain it in the most simplistic way possible, as you swing over the target it won't lock on in the centre of the coil, you'll get an audio and meter response off each side of the coil so basically at the end of each swing.
Inverted Phase Signals Can Occur On Some Lead Targets |
The size and strength of both the audio and meter response varies in relation to the size of the target you're swinging over. Large hot rocks will make the audio "CLANG" really hard, small targets like lead will give a softer indication. On these softer inverted phase indications all you have to do is lift the coil up a few inches and swing again. If the target now locks on in the centre of the coil with a sweet non-ferrous response, dig it. One thing that I also like to do is suss out the target size, once I've lifted the coil and got the desired response I will X over the signal and draw my coil forwards and backwards. I use this method when I'm identifying large iron as well.
