Suppressing Messages 'Nexus Discrimination'

This blog is an extension of the one that I wrote a while back, you can read it here RUNNING MACHINES HOT 'SILENCE ISN'T GOLDEN' The title of the blog you're about to read has a very simple meaning, the more discrimination you use on your machine the more messages and information you're going to suppress. Try and look upon your discrimination as the mainstream media, you're only going to hear what the machine wants you to hear, it's from this that we then make our judgement about the actions we're going to take. Raising your filters for a 'Quiet & Easy" hunt might be kind on the ears and the mind, but you will be missing targets, and to run Nexus efficiently you need to retrain your thoughts when it comes to audio and how it sounds.

Don't Suppress The Messages

I recently uploaded a video to my YouTube which will be included in this blog, I was using the Nexus V2 on the river Thames and I purposely ran my discrimination down low, this meant large iron would break through with a high tone but mainly on its centre. The purpose of this video was simple, it demonstrates the fact that you can run your disc low and the machine still gives you enough clues that allow you to identify large iron. The same thought process can be used on small iron as well, applying this approach means that your hunt will be lively in the amount of messages you are receiving, but if you persevere, your ears become accustom to what you're hearing. It's this process you've got to go through to understand the language of Nexus. If you try to set up any Nexus machine to mimic the silence of your digital machines then it isn't going to perform to its full potential which in turn means that you've wasted your money.

Now let's not confuse things here

Can I Run My Discrimination Higher Than What It Was On In The Video?

Yes I can

Will It Still Unmask Effectively With A Raised Discrimination?

Yes It Will

What’s The Benefit Of Being Able To I.D Large Iron With A Low Disc?

The Machine Will Unmask To Its Full Potential

What I've explained above is the same on the V3 and V3.5 but obviously the audio will sound different to the MP V2 that I'm using in my video. Another element to take into account when watching my video is the fact that the Thames river has extreme iron pollution that's built up over millennia. When hunting in iron loaded fields where there aren't huge chunks of flat iron, you can run your disc 'on the edge' and the machines will give you a low tone on both small and large pieces of ferrous material. This has been demonstrated in a lot of videos I've posted of live hunts on my channel.

Another element I'd like to cover is "Masked Targets" - How Do You Know When You Have A Masked Target Using The Approach I'm Explaining?

In the video I explain that I understand masked targets on a sensory and intuitive level but if I'm going to put it into words. When you get a high tone on iron, depending on its size, you will get a low level distortion in the audio, if you're looking at the meter, the response won't be smooth, it will have a minor stutter as it moves up and down. When a non-ferrous target is detected there's a smoothness to the audio that is mimicked in the way the meter moves, there is no visual stutter.

When you have a masked target you start to hear the two differences I've just explained in the audio. As your coil goes over a masked target there's usually at least one coil position where the smooth audio of the nonferrous comes through. To master all this you need to put a serious amount of time into hunting in iron and digging a lot of crap out the ground. Over time you won't be digging crap anymore and the nonferrous targets will be the ones filling your finds pouch up.

I hope everything I've explained in this blog makes sense, if it all sounds like too much hard work then Nexus clearly isn't for you. I've explained countless times, to operate these machines properly you need to remove all preconceived ideas about how metal detectors operate. It doesn't matter how long you've been in this hobby, new ways of thinking are required if you want to master Nexus.
